A group of scientists from the University of Arizona conduct research on Mt. Bigelow in Arizona. The location, ideal for studying a multitude of different environments, was recently re-funded by the university with emphasis on public outreach. (for the Arizona Daily Star)

Ruby was once a successful mining town on the Arizona border with Mexico. Now, it’s one of the most well-preserved ghost towns in the country, located deep within Coronado National Forest.

The Entomology department at the University of Arizona is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of insect specimens in the world. Local entomologists use resources like the insect library to aid in public outreach and education about the Sonoran Desert’s rich ecology.
